Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, Chad, Clayton and I went on our second family outing (minus Tilley). Our first outing was on Mother's day when we ate lunch on the water and hiked on a nearby trail. Yesterday we dropped Tilley off for a play date with her doggy friend, Dudley. Chad and I packed a day's worth of baby supplies (bottles, toys, a change of cloths, etc.) and headed off for Llano. They have a delicious BBQ restaurant called Coopers. When we got there, Clayton and I waited in the car while Chad stood in the massive line. It was a little too hot and smokey for Clayton. Then we enjoyed a feast of brisket, potato salad, beans, cold slaw, and blackberry cobbler. We were STUFFED by the time we left. Clayton did really well at lunch and only needed to be rocked in the bathroom for a few minutes. I settled for the bathroom because it was just too hot outside.

After lunch we headed back toward Austin and stopped at Longhorn Caverns on the way. It is right by Inks Lake. We thought that it would be a nice cool outing for Clayton. Our trip underground started out really great! Clayton fussed for a few minutes but then settled down for a 20 minute nap. Unfortunately, though, he didn't want for us to put him in the stroller so we were left carrying our 15 pound cutie! Mid-way through our 1.5 hour tour (we didn't know it would be so long!), Clayton got REALLY fussy! It is quite a claustrophobic feeling to have your 3.5 month old screaming in a cave where the echos are deafening! The tour guide was very understanding. However, as Chad and I were passing Clayton (giving the other a needed break), I mistakenly forgot to lock the stroller and it rolled into a hole. Crash - it flipped over and the contents of my purse fell out into the hole. Luckily, Clayton wasn't in it! Needless to say, we were both very embarrassed. I apologized to the group for having, not only the crying baby but the crashing stroller, too. We are still laughing about our underground fiasco!

It ended up to be a really memorable day! We are glad that we spent the day as a family. It was a little stressful at times but much more of a lasting memory than hanging around at home. Here are a few pictures from our day. Enjoy!

Waiting in line at Cooper's BBQ. Holding Clayton while Chad eats.
Chad's turn holding Clayton while I eat.
Driving to Longhorn Caverns.
Waiting for our 3 o'clock tour.

Headed underground. After a little fussing, Clayton finally feel asleep.

What is this strange place?!

Fine...I'll sit in the stroller for a few minutes!

A sleeping bat.
Back in Daddy's arms!

Walking AND feeding - now that's talent!

Mommy's turn.Whew...I'm exhausted!

All the memories. We can imagine what it was like in the cavern with Clayton's screams bouncing off the walls. You are definitely raising a little guy who will love adventure and exploring. It reminded us of the time when we were standing in line at Disney World, and you kept kicked Dad in the back of the leg yelling "Move Peoples".
