I wonder everyday if other infants hate "tummy time" as much as Clayton. He gets sooo mad at me when I put him on his tummy and will only tolerate it for 1 - 2 minutes at a time. I have heard/read all of the information on how important it is for building strength, helping with crawling, as well as turning over, and I agree with the importance. Clayton has an added need for "tummy time" because he was recently diagnosed with something called torticollis. This means that his neck muscle on one side is very tight. He compensates by always looking the other direction. It is very common for babies with torticollis to get a flat spot on one side of their head. This is the problem that Clayton is experiencing. To help with this, our pediatrician referred us to a pediatric physical therapist. I am waiting for a call back from their office to schedule a consultation with the PT. This diagnosis may involve weekly PT visits until Clayton is old enough to hold up his head. It will also require plenty of "tummy time." If anyone has suggestions on how to encourage him to spend time on his tummy, please email or post a comment. All suggestions are welcome! Here are some pictures of our tummy time this morning.
